Indonesian traditional foods are rich with spices. Each area probably has different name for Garcinia Atroviridis, but Indonesians especially in Sumatra call it as Asam Gelugur. While Malaysians call it with asam keping. This fruit is said as a family of mangosteen, but it has similarity with orange.
Asam keping itself is not only sour, but it riches with vitamin C.
It is not only used as a spice, but it is also used as home remedies for various diseases. For instance, this fruit is useful to reduce weight, giving inhibitor effect to Plasmodium berghei that becomes the cause of malaria, suppress appetite, helping break down fat, reduce bad cholesterol in blood, treat wormy, edema, menstrual problems, rheumatic, hypertension, earache and gingivitis.
